Dorreya Wood

Author and artist Dorreya Wood started writing and illustrating stories as a young child, and it has continued to be a source of enjoyment to her, ever since. She studied art and design at Chelsea College of Art, London, has travelled widely, and worked in a variety of different environments, including public libraries, interior design and special schools. Dorreya is also a holistic health therapist and an ardent advocate of a compassionate vegan lifestyle, with a longstanding passion for wholesome, cruelty-free cooking. Some of her other interests include meditation, philosophy, nature, walking, swimming, and music; playing the guitar and piano, when time permits.

Apart from the fact that the message contained in the book is one she is passionate about, Dorreya felt compelled to write Planet Cannibal because she believes that in order to expand our limited compassion, we sometimes need to have our actions graphically presented to us, as perceived from our own standpoint, if we were on the receiving end. She also strongly feels that certain popular notions and meaningless terminology need to be analysed, dissected and viewed as these would appear to us if applied to our own species and our own lives. Until we are able to do that, they will remain as fine sounding, but fraudulent concepts, with no real sense or substance.

Planet Cannibal

Planet Cannibal

Planet Cannibal depicts the bizarre and baffling practices on a parallel planet whose inhabitants have not yet evolved beyond the habit of eating their fellow beings. This humorously illustrated story exposes the corruption and manipulation behind the barbarity, as well as its chilling consequences for the planet and its inhabitants.

“I really love this book... the thoughts are really deep so the story stays with you. It's like the best kind of fairy tale or science fiction story, there's a lot more going on than the words seem to say...

“What really makes it so good is the fact it leaves the reader thinking... It is scary, but... it's the kind of scary that makes you want to go out and be brave.

“Did I say I really love this book?”

“I have no doubt that it is part of the destiny of the human race, in its gradual development, to leave off the eating of animals, as surely as the savage tribes have left off eating each other when they came into contact with the more civilized.” -- Henry David Thoreau

Bliss

Bliss

Bliss is a tale of transformation, introducing the concept of the unity of all creation. It tells the story of an enlightened little butterfly who sees beauty and value in every living thing, spreading light and wonder to all the woodland creatures, wherever she goes. Through her joyful understanding, we learn that each and everyone of us are a part of everything, united and one with all creation. Although all are touched by her radiance, not all the creatures in the meadow are ready to share her insight. In Sam, the timid little snail, however, the seed of light she sows, slowly flourishes and grows, until he overcomes his fear, and understands, at last, that there is no separation or death, and that we are never alone.
